WHAT ARE IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURES?

If you have lost or will be losing all your teeth in either your upper, lower or both jaws implant supported dentures are used to replace your missing teeth. These dentures attach to dental implants placed into the jaw. The implants function to hold the dentures in place to eliminate or significantly reduce movement of dentures and give you a replacement option that is close to your natural dentition as possible both functionally and cosmetically.

ARE IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURES RIGHT FOR ME?

If you are currently wearing dentures, have previously worn dentures or will need dentures in the future and are frustrated or worried that your teeth will not stay in place, that you will have trouble eating the foods you love or that your dentures do not look natural then you are a prime candidate for implant supported dentures. With implant supported dentures the days of worrying about your denture slipping out are a thing of the past. AM I A CANDIDATE FOR IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURES?

The quality of your bone will determine whether you are a good candidate for implant supported dentures. Even with decreased bone density there are enhancements that can be made to help almost any denture patient become an implant supported denture patient. We work with a team of outstanding oral surgeons who use the most advanced technology to help us determine the past path forward for you.

WHAT OPTIONS EXIST FOR IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURES?

There are 2 main choices for implant-supported dentures.

Hybrid Dentures - The first is commonly referred to as a hybrid denture. Hybrid dentures are dentures that mechanically screw into your dental implants. Hybrids are completely stable and can only be removed by your dental professional. They are made out of the most durable materials, are extremely streamlined and look and function just like your natural teeth.

Implant-supported Overdentures - The second option is commonly referred to as an implant-supported overdenture. Overdentures snap over top of your dental implants. While much more stable than a conventional denture, overdentures can and do need to be removed daily by the patient for easy cleaning. Overdentures are bulkier than hybrids but not as bulky as a conventional denture. They are more aesthetically pleasing and offer much greater function and comfort than conventional dentures while offering economical advantages over hybrids.

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT PROCESS AND TIMELINE?

1. After your consultation we will help you schedule an appointment with our top-notch partners in oral surgery.

2. From there an outstanding surgeon will begin planning your implant placement procedures while we begin preparing the restorative phase of your treatment.

3. After your implants are placed there is a 2-4 month healing phase before your final hybrid or overdenture in placed. However, we are often able to fabricate a temporary hybrid or overdenture to be worn during your healing phase. Despite what you see on TV or hear on the radio, not all patients are candidates to receive their hybrid or overdenture the same day their implants are placed.
